My First Child's Sweater and Matching Hat
I'd been knitting for almost three weeks when I finished these projects.
The hat has the cutest corkscrews on it.
It's not perfect, of course, but I'm pretty pleased with it for a first sweater. It was a learning experience.
I made it from this pattern. The way the pattern is written, the sweater has 3/4 sleeves, but I wanted full length sleeves. In retrospect, I should have narrowed the sleeve width, as they're too wide as full sleeves. I also made them a bit *too* long, hence the rolled cuffs. It was a very easy first sweater, though, as it's knitted end to end (sleeves), and to do the neck hole, you just bind off a few stitches then work from a second ball of yarn. That sounds and looks a lot cooler than it really is, but that made it fun.
I knitted the hat in the round, even though the pattern was for a flat piece, just because I wanted to knit in the round. The pattern that varicolored yarn made when knit in the round was interesting. I'm not thrilled with it as far as matching the sweater goes, but it is kind of cool.
This is made on tens for the sweater, nine circs for the hat using Red Heart TLC Essentials, though I can't recall the color name.
